Our Programs

We believe that “home” is more than four walls and a roof over your head. Since 1981, when our first Ronald McDonald House opened in Little Rock, over 70,000 families have found a haven in one of our Ronald McDonald House programs when their ill or injured children are in the hospital.

Our three Ronald McDonald Houses and three Ronald McDonald House Family Rooms – located in Arkansas and North Louisiana – provide compassionate support to families when their children are being treated at nearby hospitals. All services are provided free of charge.

Here, families find all the comforts of home and a good night’s rest, knowing their child is close by. Whether you need a quiet space to process what is happening at the hospital, a meal or snack, a hot cup of coffee, or simply a friendly ear, our staff and volunteers are here to give you and your family a place to call home.

NEW in 2026: We look forward to opening the Ronald McDonald House Family Room: St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, LA in spring and the Ronald McDonald House: Baptist Health in late fall.

The History of Ronald McDonald House

In 1974, an unlikely partnership in Philadelphia sparked an idea that would become a global movement. After Philadelphia Eagles tight end Fred Hill’s young daughter was diagnosed with leukemia, he saw families struggling to stay close to their hospitalized children. With support from his teammates and Dr. Audrey Evans of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, a home away from home was created for families in need—the first Ronald McDonald House.

McDonald's has been the Ronald McDonald House Founding and Forever Partner since 1974

From the moment the first Ronald McDonald House opened in Philadelphia, PA, the entire McDonald’s system has helped support families with ill or injured children, providing stability and vital resources. McDonald’s support extends from monetary contributions and volunteerism to cause-related marketing promotions and the space to place Ronald McDonald House Donation Boxes that raise money for local chapters, including Ronald McDonald House Arkansas & North Louisiana.
